Thousands from all over the world meet in Beech Bend for the three-day car event

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – There may have been a few more vintage cars than usual in Bowling Green traffic over the past three days due to the ninth annual Danchuk Tri-Five Nationals. The event is held at Beech Bend and is organized by about nine people from the American Tri-Five Association and Woody’s Hot Rodz in Indiana.

It is the largest event in the country that is all about Chevrolet.

“We have over 3,000 Tri-Five Chevys, specialty vehicles from 1955, 1956 and 1957,” said Tri-Five Sales Manager David Whelan. “We have employees not only from all over the country, but from seven different countries and three different continents.”

They include participants from Norway, Japan, Australia, Germany and Canada. And Whelan said there were about 20,000 spectators on Saturday alone.

“The reason this event is so special is because those cars were so iconic in 1955, 1956 and 1957, as they were the first V8 production vehicle Chevy ever built,” he said. “They built over 4.8 million of them. They’re very versatile cars and people do so many different things with them.”

The Nationals include three days of activities such as drag racing, car and award ceremonies and giveaways.

On Thursday they performed a benefit concert for the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society.

The Tri-Five Association is grateful to the community of Bowling Green for welcoming so many visitors to town.

“We’re happy that more people come every year and it just keeps getting bigger. We value the people in the city, welcome the people here who participate, all the people who come here to watch.”

And they are already preparing for the 2025 Tri-Five Nationals.

“The day we get here to set everything up, we’re already planning for next year.”
