Pepsi and Kelly Rowland launch the “Local Eats Better With Pepsi” program

Purchase, New York-based PepsiCo has teamed up with award-winning singer Kelly Rowland to transform local restaurant patrons into hometown celebrities, giving them the chance to appear in a Pepsi commercial and have their favorite menu renamed in her honor.

To kick off the Local Eats Better With Pepsi program, Kelly invites consumers to enjoy the food that keeps bringing her back to her favorite hometown eatery, Houston This Is It Soul Food.

“Eating at Houston This Is It Soul Food is not just about the delicious food and drinks, but also about the memories you create there,” Rowland said in a statement. “The combination of soul food and drinking Pepsi will always remind me of celebrating big moments with my family and friends, and I look forward to sharing a taste of that with others.”

The Houston restaurant is a fourth-generation family-owned institution serving comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere and renamed Kelly’s favorite food in her honor. From August 27 through September 24, Houstonians can enjoy the Kelly Rowland special exclusively at both This Is It Soul Food locations in Houston – a pepper steak with rice and gravy, green beans, peach pie and an ice-cold Pepsi from the vending machine for $15.

“Neighborhood restaurants have a unique way of connecting with their guests. The Local Eats Better With Pepsi program is all about celebrating the restaurants that keep guests coming back not just for the food, but for the community they create,” said Scott Finlow, chief marketing officer of PepsiCo Global Foodservice, in a statement. “We are honored to shine a spotlight on these hometown gems and the loyal patrons who support them.”

Consumers can apply to win a spot in the spotlight for themselves and their favorite local restaurant by nominating the spot on PepsiLocalEats.com by October 31. Winners will be featured in their own Pepsi campaign and their favorite dish will be renamed in their honor. Winners will also be able to enjoy their namesake dish for free for a limited time.

Consumers who submit their restaurant history by October 31 will also receive $3 to make their next meal better with Pepsi.
