Lower Manhattan is the hotel capital of NYC

I don’t want to brag, but new data shows that Lower Manhattan statistically the best – at least when it comes to hotel occupancy. A new real estate report from the Downtown Alliance found that hotel occupancy in Lower Manhattan was 89 percent in the second quarter, the highest rate ever recorded. That rate also surpassed hotel occupancy rates in Midtown and the city as a whole for that period. In other words, Lower Manhattan really is the place to stay, whether you’re visiting from out of town or just looking for a home-away-from-home vacation.

The good news is that you’ll almost always find a room, as there are 8,498 hotel rooms in 43 hotels in the area. (Plus, four more hotels are planned, so you’ll have even more places to stay in a year or two.)

Our report also found that the average room rate per day for a Lower Manhattan hotel is $317.06. Want to splurge on something more luxurious? Head to the Wall Street Hotel (88 Wall St.), a timeless spot with a sleek rooftop bar and plenty of nods to the neighborhood’s rich history, or the Warren Street Hotel (86 Warren St.), a trendy, maximalist dream hotel that opened earlier this year. You could also snag a room at the Beekman, a Thompson Hotel by Hyatt (123 Nassau St.), famous for its in-house restaurant helmed by Tom Colicchio as well as its Instagram-worthy nine-story atrium with wrought-iron balustrades.

There are also plenty of gorgeous mid-range hotels. Take Gild Hall, a Thompson Hotel (15 Gold St.), for example, which offers thoughtfully designed midcentury-style rooms and some of the best Italian food around. There’s also Mint House (70 Pine St.), a high-tech hotel in an old Art Deco building with every amenity you could imagine. Some of the units even have kitchens. And then there’s Moxy NYC Downtown (26 Ann St.), a stylish spot with its own basketball court, movie nights, live music, arcade games, and more entertainment.

And if you want to save your money for the many restaurants, bars, and activities in Lower Manhattan, there are plenty of affordable places to relax. The FIDI Hotel (11 Stone St.) has sleek rooms with plenty of natural light and a stylish lounge. Pets are welcome, so your four-legged friend can accompany you. Or check out the Hotel Indigo NYC Downtown – Wall Street (120-122 Water St.), which has comfortable rooms for relaxing and an indoor and outdoor bar on the 25th and 26th floors. Another budget option is the Artezen (24 John St.), which has plush bedding, in-room Nespresso coffee machines, and even private terraces in some rooms. It’s also as centrally located as the neighborhood gets.

All of these hotels are within easy reach of 13 subway lines, six commuter and 24 express bus lines, multiple ferry routes and PATH train service to/from New Jersey, as well as attractions like the New York Stock Exchange and One World Trade Center with access to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Plus, Lower Manhattan is just a great place to visit (or work or live), and we have the hotel accommodations to prove it.
