Arkansas Republican Party delegates take legal action against party leaders

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (KAIT/KARK) – Delegates to the Arkansas Republican Party’s state convention recently took legal action against their own party’s leadership.

According to our content partner KARK, this action came after the RPA board voted to prohibit the party from enforcing the closed GOP primary in the state.

“The lawsuit, filed by 2024 State Convention Chair Jennifer Lancaster in the Eastern District of Arkansas of the United States, alleges that 18 members of the RPA State Executive Committee voted to invalidate petitions from more than 600 delegates in June following an advisory opinion from the chair of the party’s Rules Committee that indicated the items were not on the convention agenda in time to be properly announced,” KARK reported.

Following the meeting, RPA Chairman Joseph Wood stated that the invalidity of these measures was due to a failure to properly announce and officially include the items on the agenda.

The lawsuit asked the court to order the defendants to immediately terminate the RPA primaries and all other rule and platform changes the party made on June 8.
