Texas Woman Celebrates 90th Birthday at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Paris and Reveals Story Behind Her Favorite Song (Exclusive)

Nancy Strong says she has “looked up” to Swift since her now infamous performance at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

A Texas woman spent her 90th birthday in style – she traveled to Paris to attend Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert.

Nancy Strong has gone viral since sharing her experiences on Instagram in a short video clip that shows the 90-year-old dressed in sequins and singing at the top of her lungs.

Nancy, who owns and continues to run a travel agency in Dallas, Texas, tells PEOPLE that her plan to go to Paris was largely inspired by her two granddaughters, whom she describes as “true Swifties.”

“It all started with my granddaughters Jennifer Strong and Brianne Strong, real Swifties,” Nancy tells PEOPLE. “They said to me, ‘Grandma, we’re going to Paris together to see Taylor Swift.'”

And although demand for tickets to the show is notoriously high, the trio managed to secure entry during a late-night computer session.

“We sat at the computer in the middle of the night and managed to get five tickets at a reasonable price,” says Nancy, adding, “Our little party got bigger when my son Jim Strong and my friend David Davis joined in.”

Once in France, Nancy and her granddaughters spent their holiday in style, staying in one of Paris’ most luxurious hotels (partly in the hope that they would be able to see Swift in person).

“Jennifer and I stayed at the Bulgari Hotel in Paris and thought Taylor Swift might be in the penthouse – but unfortunately we were out of luck,” she jokes.

And even though it was her granddaughters who urged her to take the trip, Nancy admits that she is also a Swiftie at heart.

“I’ve been a Swiftie for over 10 years,” she says. “She caught my attention at the 2009 VMAs during the Kanye West scandal. She handled that situation with so much grace and I’ve looked up to her ever since.”

When asked about her favorite Swift song, Nancy answers quickly.

“My favorite song is ‘The Man.’ Why? I’m a woman who started a company in the 1970s in a male-dominated world and wondered if I could get there faster as a man,” she says. “Those lyrics really touched me.”

Nancy adds that she also has a personal connection to Swift, as some of her children were raised in the same place where the pop icon grew up.

“I love that Taylor is always herself and very natural. She grew up in Reading, Pennsylvania, where I raised five boys in the ’60s,” says Nancy. “Reading will always have a special place in my heart.”

As a true Texan, Nancy was keen to join the Eras tour and dress up, so she wore a lavender sequin top and matching pants.

“Let’s be honest, if you’re going to a Taylor Swift concert, the more bling you can wear, the better,” says Nancy, adding that she thinks Taylor herself would appreciate the ensemble. “Apparently ‘Lavender Haze’ is one of her favorite colors. When I saw the lavender sequin top, I had to have it for the concert.”

While the top was ordered online from London, the rest of the outfit was entirely Nancy’s own. “I bought the satin pants at NorthPark Mall in Dallas. And last but not least, I never go out without my cowboy boots – I’m a true Texan!”

Nancy, whose travel agency has been in business for 50 years, tells PEOPLE the secret to her youthful attitude is simply that “there is no secret.”

“My life has been extremely full, I have a large family that loves and supports me,” she says. “I am blessed with good health and a lot of energy. I enjoy life and look forward to the adventures that each day brings.”
