Obituary for John Evans | August 22, 2024 | Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services

John William Evans, 86, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Addington Place of Muscatine. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Following the memorial service, you are welcome to join the family for a celebration of life to be held at the Muscatine American Legion, 110 South Houser. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions for John may be made to Camp Chisomo or to the Muscatine Humane Society. John was born on April 7, 1938, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Stephen G. and Erna A. (Pagel) Evans. He attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Muscatine High School in 1956. John married Melody Lou May on June 16, 1957, in Muscatine.

John worked as a dock and warehouse manager for Hon for 39 years until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church and a member and leader of the country-western band Western Playboys. He was also a member of the Elks Chanters, All State Boys Quartet and the Hole in One Club at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. John enjoyed all outdoor activities including camping, fishing, golfing and boating. He loved music, especially country and gospel. He enjoyed traveling and taking cruises to all sorts of destinations. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Melody Evans of Muscatine; his children, Matthew Evans of Delhi; Amy (Avery) Zybarth of Muscatine; Troy (Colleen) Evans of Davenport; and Tricia (Randy) Brockert of Hills; his grandchildren, Noah (Samantha) Evans of Farley; Alicia Brockert of Los Angeles, California; Kaitlyn (Trevor) Dodson of Davenport; Madeline Evans of Delhi; and Delaney, Hayden, Brady and Griffyn Evans, all of Davenport; and his great-grandchildren, Nellie Grace Evans and John Baylor “Jack” Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law Tammy Evans, brothers Vaughn (Irene) Evans and Ronald Evans, sisters Phyllis (Louie) Henke and Betty (Elwood) Lord, and stepbrothers Ralph Evans and Walter Evans.
