Leylah Fernandez wants to achieve something she has never done before: win a Grand Slam title. The 21-year-old Canadian started the 2024 US Open as the number 23 seed.

As a 19-year-old, Fernandez finished second at the US Open behind her equally young Emma Raducanu. It was a match that catapulted both young women into the spotlight and from which there was no turning back.

For the 2024 US Open, Fernandez decided to make a change and took to the court at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City in a brand new look.

When Fernandez entered the court for her match against Russian Anastasia Potapova, she wore fresh braids.

Fernandez documented the creation of the new hairstyle in a video shared on Instagram.

The new look was created by India Williams, a freelance hairstylist based in New York City. Fernandez was all smiles after she had the hair done.

Unfortunately for Fernandez, she narrowly missed out on a win in a grueling three-set match, losing 6-2, 4-6, 5-7.
