JOHN CORABI wants to make a blues album with MICK MARS

In a new interview with Robert Cavuoto by Sonic Perspectives, former MÖTLEY CRÜE Singer Johannes Corabi explained why the songs he recorded in 2016 with MÖTLEY CRÜE guitarist Mike Mars — apparently called “Give me blood” And “Shake the cage” — are not included in MickThe recently released solo debut album “The other side of Mars”. Corabi said (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “To be honest, all this happened because Mick… And I don’t understand the (trademark) laws or whatever. But Mick has a – I think he has his own record label. It is called 1313 records or whatever, and he trademarked it. And when you trademark something, you can trademark it, but you have to do business within a certain time period. He had written these songs before. Except – I think there’s a song called ‘Shake the cage’. I have written some texts for it. But Mick just said to me: “Hey, crabI did those two songs. I’m not really thrilled with how they came out. I re-recorded them. Would you sing them? I want to release them, or just snippets of them, so his trademark is kind of embedded. And I’m like, “Yeah, dude. Whatever.” Well, it’s funny. He made a video, or his wife actually filmed us, took some pictures and they released them, and everyone went completely crazy and thought Mick and I have worked together. Now we have talked about writing and recording something, but my schedule with THE (DEAD) DAISIEShis schedule with MÖTLEY back then we couldn’t put two and two together. So he released these songs and then he went about his business and started writing with Paul Taylor And Jacob Bunton and just all these great guys. And I love the new stuff he’s done. I’m just glad his damn record finally came out.”

Corabi said that he still had hope that he would Mars on a new project. “I said MickI said, ‘Dude, if you ever want to write, man, count me in the fuck,'” he said. “I tried to talk him into doing something a little different from what he’s been doing, which is… Anyone who knows Mike Mars knows he is a blues guy. He grew up Jeff Beck, John Mayall, Leslie West, Jimmy Pageall that cool shit. So I tried to get him to just say, “Let’s sit down and write a record with riffs like ‘Never in my life’ from MOUNTAIN.’ I said, ‘Dude, take your tone, those kind of riffs, and I’ll sing along and we’ll just make a real hard blues record.’ And he seemed to be into it. But who knows? We’ll see (if we get to it). I’m just glad that Mick release his record. I’m sorry he has to go through all this crap with the band. But hopefully they can work it all out.”

Last October Mars was during a performance on SiriusXM‘S “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk” why the songs he sang with Corabi eight years ago were not included on “The other side of Mars”. Mick said: “I thought the songs were just a little bit – not strong enough. And there’s one particular person who kind of interfered with it. And I won’t say his name, but he kind of messed up a few things. The songs were wrong, parts in there that shouldn’t be there and blah blah blah. It’s not a long story, but it was kind of like, ‘This isn’t going to work.’ So I put it on hold.”

Asked by the host Eddie Trunk to clarify that it was a third party involved in the project – not Corabi – who “somehow messed it up” Mick said: “(I was) kind of scammed — that’s all I have to say — by a third party. And that’s it. That’s all. I got rid of him and moved on and looked for other people. I mean, look, I found (producers).” Michael Wagener after a while. He lives just down the street.”

In 2016 Mars released excerpts from the two solo songs mentioned above. The tracks that were recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, where Mars has lived for more than a decade, presented Corabiwho appeared CRUE‘s 1994 album of the same name. Corabi later said that he had not contributed to the writing process of the two songs, but was open to collaborating with Mars on brand new material.
