Peters Township Library’s Read Local/Eat Local will be held on September 7th

At Read Local/Eat Local in 2022, people line up at the author tables.

If you’re in the mood for a book or maybe just some ice cream, the Peters Township Public Library is hosting its annual Read Local/Eat Local event next week.

On Sept. 7, 22 local authors and three food trucks will be in the library parking lot from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Illyana Logan, assistant director of the library, said there will also be family-friendly activities such as a temporary tattoo station.

“This year we have all new food trucks and all new authors,” said Logan. “We have a really wide selection of different types of books to offer.”

Authors who write children’s books, science fiction, romance novels and memoirs will take part in the event.

Since Read Local launched in 2018, it has become so popular that the library has introduced an application process for authors.

“We’re really looking for a range of different genres and age groups,” Logan said.

The food trucks featured for the “Eat Local” portion of the event are Hibachi Lou, Notorious BLT and Happy Day Dessert Factory.

At last year’s Read Local/Eat Local, around 400 participants attended over the course of the day, allowing the event to be extended from two to three hours.

“We hope there will be at least as many again this year,” said Logan.
