Evergreen Park participates in a school supplies drive

The start of a new school year is an exciting time for students and parents, but families purchasing school supplies can feel overwhelmed by the high costs.

That’s why the Evergreen Park Public Library, Evergreen Park Youth Department, and the Evergreen Park Community have joined forces to host a school supply drive to benefit families in Evergreen Park School District 124 who may be experiencing financial hardship.

“We prepare students for a safe and productive school year and ensure they are well prepared and confident on their first day of school,” says Youth Librarian Mary Black. Youth Services Director Pyeisha Allen focuses on the needs of the youth at Evergreen Park and wants all students to be ready for school on the first day.

“Our department is very involved in the community and we are very excited about this drive to collect school supplies for our school children!” Allen added, “Our residents have always been very generous when the village has had a drive to collect school supplies, whether it be for winter coats, Christmas toys or whatever was needed.”

The school supply drive runs now through August 16. To donate supplies such as new or gently used backpacks, markers, pens, crayons, scissors, dry erase markers, binders, notebooks, pencil cases, highlighters and glue sticks, visit the Evergreen Park Public Library, 9400 S. Troy Avenue, Evergreen Park Youth Department, 3450 W. 97th Donations can be made at the church’s street address or at the community center, 9418 S. Kedzie Avenue.

Families are asked to contact their school to pick up school supplies.
