Dr. John H. Moore, 83, of Magnolia, Arkansas, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at Magnolia Regional Medical Center. John was born on December 5, 1940 in Dierks, Arkansas. He was a dedicated lifelong learner, earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Henderson State University and later a doctorate in education from East Texas State University. John’s passion for education spanned 50 years. He began as a teacher and quickly rose to become assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in Texarkana, Texas, all before his thirtieth birthday. He then served as superintendent of schools in Arlington, Texas, North Little Rock, Arkansas, DeSoto, Texas, and Magnolia, Arkansas. His commitment to public education was unwavering, and he worked with the Texas Department of Education and the Arkansas Department of Education to ensure that every child received the best education possible. John was not just a steward; he was a community man, active on countless committees and rarely missed a school function. His commitment to education and the communities he served was evident in every role he took on. John was preceded in death by his parents, John E. Moore and Ello (Lochridge) Moore, his brother Charles E. Moore and his wife, Mary Quinn Moore, his half-brother Jimmy Gunn Moore, his great-nephew Michael Shane Moore and his great-niece Amanda Ray Moore. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Kelly Moore of Magnolia, his son, Scott Moore and his wife, Amy, and their children, Anna Elizabeth Moore and John Whitman Moore, all of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his nephews, Mike Moore and his wife, Teresa, and Terry Moore and his wife, Julia, his great-nephew Todd Moore and his wife, Kelly, of Dierks and their children, Reagan Brown and MaClane Moore; great-niece Rachel Lowrey and husband Lance of Dierks, and their children Lucas Lowrey and Avery Lowrey, and numerous other relatives and friends. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Magnolia, Arkansas. The Rev. Kenny Lee will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Magnolia Public Schools Foundation, PO Box 177, Magnolia, Arkansas, 71754. John’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched through his commitment to education and his love for his community.
