The Wildcats’ 2024 Fall Preseason is underway! The Wildcats Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders were one of our first teams to get started as they began a four-day intensive camp experience at the National Cheer Association (NCA) Cheer Camp in Pennsylvania last week!

Both teams embraced the camp spirit with enthusiasm and dedication and took the opportunity to showcase their exceptional skills. Their hard work paid off in a big way and we are proud to report that the cheerleaders achieved several outstanding achievements. Their numerous awards and recognitions underscore their dedication and talent for cheerleading.

The Varsity team excelled, beating 19 other teams to win the prestigious NCA Best All Around 2024 Award and earning the Spirit Stick for all four days of camp. The NCA Spirit Stick is the organization’s symbol of outstanding sportsmanship and character. The Wildcats also secured the Mega Spirit Stick on day two. The Varsity team also earned 3rd place in their Jam Performance and won both a Tumble Technical Award and a Team Herkie Award.

Individual awards included:

  • Top Gun Jump winner: Amelia Barravecchia
  • Top Gun Tumble Winner: Taylor Secord
  • NCA All-Americans:

    • Jolie O’Neill
    • Amelia Barravecchia

Taylor Secord also received the NCA All-American Top Overall Camp Score. Amelia Barravecchia, Gabi DiMarco and Olivia Retcho were honored with the Pin It Forward Award.

The Junior Varsity team had an outstanding camp, securing the Spirit Stick for all four days and placing 2nd in Jam Performance. Congratulations to Emma Pasciuto for her Pin It Forward award.

“The camp was an invaluable skill development experience as our cheerleaders improved their stunting, jumping and tumbling techniques under the expert guidance of the NCA staff,” said Elizabeth Sullivan, WVMS teacher and university cheerleading coach. “It also strengthened the camaraderie among our cheerleaders, and developed lasting friendships and teamwork skills. As we look forward to the fall 2024 season, we are immensely proud of the teams’ accomplishments.”

NCA camps are not just about hard work, they’re also about fun. In addition to expert professional guidance, the camps offer team building activities, games and themed events, such as the amazing ice cream party that added to the Wildcats’ unforgettable experience.
