How Kirk Cameron’s Story Hour is triggering a great awakening in America

Actor and self-professed Kirk Cameron hopes that his children’s books will trigger a “great awakening” in the United States in response to the country’s moral decline. According to The Christian Postthe “Growing Pains” actor recently held a story time at the James M. Duncan branch of the Alexandria Public Library in Virginia on Saturday. He read his book “Pride Comes Before the Fall,” which he wrote in collaboration with Brave Books Publishing.

In addition to the library event just outside of Washington DC, Cameron also spoke in Stone Ridge and Stephens City, also in northern Virginia.

Cameron has written three children’s books under Brave Books: As you grow, Pride comes before a fallAnd The fox, the fair and the fear of inventionThe books emphasize the need to recognize the fruit of the Spirit, humility, and love of enemies.

Before reading the children’s book, Cameron recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang “God Bless America” with those in attendance. As he read the book, pages from the story were shown on a screen in the background. At the end of the story time, Cameron prayed and encouraged the children in the audience to make friends with one another.

In an interview with The Christian Post, Cameron explained what motivated him to write children’s books.

“I’m actually a grandfather now,” he said.

“As a grandfather and a father of six, I care deeply about what we do in our generation because so much of that will determine how our children live, what kind of world they grow up in,” Cameron added. “I want to … write books for as long as I can and talk to people about how to turn their hearts to God, turn their hearts back to home, raise their children and not outsource their education to government institutions that have less goals and motives for these children than their own parents.”

The actor also expressed his wish that children “love their country and appreciate the sacrifices that so many men and women have made to give us a country with so much opportunity, so much freedom and so much prosperity,” adding, “I want to do my part to keep it that way and to keep it growing.”

He hopes the “See You at the Library” events and the collaboration with Brave Books will be “a perfect start to another great awakening in America.”

He referred to previous great revival processes in America’s “revival movements” in which “people’s eyes were opened and they recognized the difficulties they were in. They turned their hearts back to God and experienced a refreshing and renewal of principles that again led to human flourishing.”

“These revivals have always occurred in times of moral decay, spiritual apathy, economic collapse and political corruption. … We are seeing plenty of that right now.”

“I want to tell people that now is the time to lean on their faith, their courage, their family, and give themselves a vision of victory again. Not just a dream victory of ‘let’s just get to heaven,’ but a cultural victory that will end up on our plates in our lifetime,” he concluded.
