The time has come: The date for the Senate debate in the US state of Arizona between Ruben Gallego and Kari Lake has been set

The highly anticipated Senate debate in the state of Arizona between Democratic U.S. Representative Ruben Gallego and Republican Kari Lake has taken place, officials announced Thursday.

According to Clean Elections, the nonpartisan sponsor of the state debate, the nominees will face off for 60 minutes on Oct. 9, starting at 6 p.m.

The debate will give voters a chance to weigh the candidates in a race that could determine which party wins control of the Senate in the Nov. 5 general election.

RealClearPolitics polls averaged 6.7 percent for Gallego on Friday, putting him ahead.

Woman from Gilbert missing after flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park

A Gilbert woman is missing after being caught in a flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park on Thursday, authorities said.

Chenoa Nickerson, 33, was swept into Havasu Creek about half a mile upstream of the Colorado River, the National Park Service said Friday.

Authorities said several hikers were stranded below and above Beaver Falls after the flash flood that occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Rescue efforts began at 3 p.m.

Beaver Falls is located on Havasu Creek above Havasupai Falls, a well-known natural attraction on tribal land in the Grand Canyon.


3 teenagers arrested after investigation into violent crimes in Buckeye Park

Three teenagers were arrested and charged with threatening to shoot a group of people in a Buckeye park in July, authorities said Thursday.

Buckeye police responded to Buckeye Town Park on the evening of July 24 after hearing that juveniles were threatening to shoot a group of people, a news release said.

Two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old man left the area before officers arrived on scene. No one was found injured in the park.

Authorities arrested the three teenagers at separate locations in Buckeye and recovered a stolen gun from one of the suspects’ residences. The arrests were completed on August 12.


Owner of Tucson solar company charged with defrauding homeowners

The owner of a Tucson-based solar installation company has been charged with fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

On August 14, 37-year-old Daniel Jarrett Ridlinghafer was indicted by a grand jury in federal court in Tucson on 11 counts of bank fraud, wire fraud and mail fraud.

Ridlinghafer is alleged to have owned and operated Psalm 112 LLC, which did business under the trade name Tucson Solar Pros. From January 2021 to July 7, 2022, Ridlinghafer is alleged to have carried out a conspiracy to defraud at least 25 homeowners and two federal credit unions of $695,000, according to the indictment.


Governor Katie Hobbs deploys Arizona National Guard in response to flooding in Havasupai

Governor Katie Hobbs has deployed National Guard resources in response to severe flooding in Havasupai.

Hobbs has deployed resources, including National Guard troops and a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, to assist those affected by the flooding.

As of August 23, there were no confirmed deaths from the floods.
