Helmut Marko assures that Red Bull will not stand in Liam Lawson’s way if he drives for a rival team, despite the rumors about Williams

Red Bull Junior Liam Lawson has been waiting on the sidelines since stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo last year. The New Zealand driver is hoping for a full-time racing seat for 2025. Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Helmut Marko has assured that he can also gain experience elsewhere in the starting field in Milton Keynes.

Rumours suggest Williams could consider a replacement Logan Sargeant from the next round itself. Liam Lawson is considered the most promising candidate to succeed the American driver after he suffered a serious crash during free practice for the Dutch GP.

Helmut Marko claimed that Red Bull would not stand in Lawson’s way if he was given the opportunity to gain experience of a seat this season, so Liam Lawson seems to have the green light if he is indeed called upon to take Sargeant’s seat for the remainder of the season.

If it suits a young driver and he can gain some racing experience, we wouldn’t stand in his way.

Christian Horner: “open” to letting Liam Lawson drive for Williams

Team leader Christian Horner stressed that if Lawson drives for Williams, it must be on agreed terms that would allow Red Bull to recall him if necessary. Nevertheless, Horner stated that he is open to Liam Lawson joining Williams next weekend if the Grove-based team wants him to take Sargeant’s place.

It depends on the conditions and if we need him again. We could get him back pretty quickly. But we would certainly… if they needed a driver next weekend, we would be open to it.
Christian Horner said, as ESPN reported

Certainly Liam Lawson would benefit from a short stint at Williams. The New Zealand driver could secure a full-time seat if he lives up to expectations. However, Williams has not yet decided to release Sargeant for the upcoming Italian GP.
