Community prepares a birthday party for boy he will never forget

HARRISBURG, Arkansas (KAIT) – A community gave a Harrisburg boy a birthday party he will never forget.

Jace Ray just turned eight years old and hosted his birthday party at the Harrisburg City Pool on Sunday, August 25th.

Things didn’t look good at first. Jace’s mother, Jessica Lively, said that initially it was just her and Jace at the party.

“We got here and you know, there was nobody there, so it was just Jace and I until about 1:30 a.m.,” Lively said.

The last year has been hard for Jace and his mother, as Jace lost his father last year. Jessica thought this would be the second time in a row that hardly anyone was at his party

The community of Harrisburg has made sure that this will not happen again.

A community member posted on the Harrisburg Pool’s Facebook page and almost immediately people started coming.

Some mothers who were at the party, Chasity Moss, Lonna Coffey and Sarah Collins, said they came as quickly as they could after seeing the post.

“I dropped everything and called my sister. She lives in Jonesboro. I asked her if she wanted to take the kids and go to the party and support the little boy,” Coffey said.

People from several communities were in attendance, including some first responders, the Harrisburg football team, and Harrisburg Mayor Justin Kimble.

β€œIt means a lot that the community can come together like this, even on such short notice,” Kimble said.

“To see that there are people out there who really care and are taking care of a little boy who needed something,” Lively said.

Thanks to the power of social media and the outpouring of support from others, Jace was able to have a birthday he will never forget.

“It’s just amazing to see what people can do in a community to come together and things like that, that’s what communities do,” Lively said.

“We didn’t even ask, and she didn’t ask. We just got in the car and drove in that direction,” Coffey said.
