Christchurch Hospital Volunteer Gift Shop reopens

Christchurch Hospital Volunteer Gift Shop reopens

Christchurch Hospital volunteers’ popular gift shop has been given a fresh, modern look.

After years of use, the shop has been badly worn down and now boasts a new design and a complete interior, financed by the dedicated volunteers themselves.

The newly redesigned gift shop was officially reopened with a grand opening led by Senior Operations Manager George Schwass, marking a new chapter for this hospital facility.

Ann Hill, retail coordinator and store manager, said: “Whether you want to drop off a parcel, grab a lollipop, pick up a magazine or buy a gift to cheer up a patient, the store is always there for you.”

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our wonderful volunteers, the gift shop has donated nearly $2.2 million in comfort items for patients and visitors, supported staff training, and occasionally purchased equipment.”

As the Volunteer Committee’s primary source of funding, the Gift Shop enables the approval of numerous grants.

The recent renovations ensure that the business continues to thrive and provide excellent service to all visitors.

“Our volunteers bring their skills and kindness to the table every day,” said Ann. “By doing so, they provide a much-needed service while raising money that contributes to many projects and patient comfort items at the hospital. One hundred percent of the profits go back to the hospital community. It’s truly worth your support.”

In addition to the shop, volunteers also run an online service where friends and relatives can purchase gifts for their loved ones in hospital. A volunteer will personally deliver the gifts. For more information about this service visit www.christchurchhospitalgiftshop.co.nz.
