Christchurch Hospital gift shop reopens after extensive renovation

Christchurch Hospital volunteers’ popular gift shop has reopened after a fresh, modern makeover.

The gift shop on Riccarton Avenue received a modern design and a completely new interior, funded by the volunteers.

The store was reopened last Thursday by Operations Manager George Schwass, who cut a ribbon to celebrate.

“Whether you want to drop off a package, grab a piece of candy, pick up a magazine or buy a gift to cheer up a patient, the store is always there for you,” says Retail Coordinator/Store Manager Ann Hill.

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our wonderful volunteers, the gift shop has donated nearly $2.2 million worth of comfort items for patients and visitors to support staff training and, at times, to purchase equipment.”

The store is the volunteer committee’s main source of funding and enables it to receive numerous grants.

The renovation will ensure that this success continues and great service is provided to everyone who walks through the hotel’s doors, says Hill.

“The volunteers who work in the store bring their skills and kindness every day.

“By doing so, they are providing a much-needed service while also raising money to support many projects and items for the comfort of hospital patients.

“100 percent of the profits go to the hospital community. It’s truly worth your support,” Hill said.

The volunteers also run the store’s website service, where relatives and friends can purchase a gift for their loved ones in the hospital and a volunteer will then deliver it.
