Quentin Tarantino has “no desire” to watch “Toy Story 4”

Quentin Tarantino doesn’t want to play with Toy history more.

The famous director recently appeared in an episode of the comedy podcast Club Random with Bill Maherwhere he discussed, among other things, the difficulties of completing a trilogy in a way that satisfies the audience. Due to his love for the first Toy history Trilogy, the Kill Bill Helmer said he had “no desire” to watch the other films.

“I don’t watch all the cartoons and stuff, but I’m a big fan of the Toy history trilogy,” he said in a clip that has since gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I believe there is only one trilogy that works down to the smallest detail, and that is For a handful of dollars, For a few dollars more And The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”

He further described that the Italian film series starring Clint Eastwood, which founded the Spaghetti Western genre, was successful because it followed the “vision of a single director” in all three films, namely filmmaker Sergio Leone.

“It does what no other trilogy has ever done,” he told Maher. “The first film is great, but the second film is so great and puts the whole idea on such a big screen that it overshadows the first. And then the third film does the same thing to the second, and that’s what never happens. You see this big jump from the first to the second, and they don’t really make the third one.” The pulp Fiction Director quoted the Mad Max Movies as a series that is unable to make the landing.

Tarantino said that the Disney animated franchise, as with the Dollar Trilogy, was capable of accomplishing this feat and that for this reason he had no interest in watching the films beyond the more recent installment.

“In the case of Toy historythe third one is just great,” he explained to Maher, who said he had never seen the films. “It’s one of the best films I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, they made a fourth one three years later or something, and I have no desire to see it. They literally finished the story as perfectly as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

Perhaps to Tarantino’s chagrin, Toy Story 5 is currently in development. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed at this year’s D23 Expo that Pixar animation legend Andrew Stanton (the two-time Oscar winner of the original film) will return to direct. The release date for the film, which shows what happens when kids become obsessed with technology, is set for June 19, 2026.
