Jayson Tatum reveals he got ’emotional’ after receiving a beautiful gift from son Deuce; everything you need to know

NBA 2K25 will be released on September 6, 2024. You can pre-order the game now. Over the years, 2K has released covers featuring various NBA players; this year, Jayson Tatum is on the cover.

The NBA champion Boston Celtics deserve coverage, especially after winning the 2023-24 season. Tatum played a key role in the Celtics’ championship win, especially with his game-winning layup in the final seconds of Game 5.

The news was delivered to the Celtics star in a unique way. Deuce Tatum – his son and biggest fan – broke the big news on his birthday, leaving Jayson Tatum emotional. Deuce ran up with a small bag in his hand while Tatum was relaxing at his mother’s house. Inside, JT discovered that he had made it to the cover of 2K, something he had always dreamed of since he was a child.

We all know the strong father-son bond between Tatum and his son Deuce. JT’s little man has even been stealing all the attention at his dad’s games with his on-court performances. Having his little guy, who has been with him the whole time, break the news to him on his birthday made the moment even more special, and had the former Duke star saying, “I was touched.”

With the new 2K game coming out soon, Ronnie also gave 2K some insight into how they chose Jayson Tatum as the cover athlete for NBA 2K25.

Jayson Tatum

Ronnie 2k, Digital Marketing Manager at 2K Games, claims they decided on Tatum for the cover a while ago because they had product and delivery deadlines to consider. They wanted to build the story around the guy because they hadn’t featured a champion on the cover since 2K16. They look for three things: whether the player is sincere and genuinely interested in the game; whether there’s a compelling story to build around the player (Tatum recently won a chip and is still hot); and finally, whether the player is on the rise.

“This is a really authentic story and what a year for him to be given this honor and win his first championship and a second gold medal. Jayson, everything is going full steam ahead. He’s had a lot going on this summer. I’m sure he’ll hold a grudge and maybe he’ll be MVP,” Ronnie told 2k. Despite his difficult Olympic experience, Tatum should be encouraged to showcase his skills as the cover athlete for 2K in the upcoming NBA season.
