The Paralympic flame stops at the Council of Europe on its way to Paris

Three days before the opening of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024The Council of Europe has Start of the Paralympic torch relay in Strasbourgat a ceremony organized under the patronage of the organization’s Secretary General, Marija Pejčinović Burić.

Delivered by Jean-Paul Greth, President of the Comité Départemental Handisport 68 13 years ago, after a 40-year career as a teacher of special physical activities in disability sport, the first torch was lit on the forecourt of the Council of Europe before continuing its journey in the Parc de l’Orangerie.

The Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly, Despina Chatzivassiliou-Tsovilis, the President of the Collectivité européenne d’AlsaceFrédéric Bierry, President of EurometropolisPia Imbs and the Mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian, took part in this ceremony.

Upon arrival in FranceThe Paralympic flame was divided into 12 flames, which were welcomed simultaneously in as many places, including Strasbourg.

The Council of Europe, whose aim is to make sport healthy, ethical and accessible to allwelcomed the Olympic flame on 26 June and the Paralympic flame today.
