Shaningwa supports Swapo flag ‘tree decoration’ – News

Swapo Secretary General Sophia Shaningwa says the trees in the Omusati region are being beautified by the party’s flag.

She says most of the trees she has seen along the roadside in the region are “decorated in blue, red and green.”

Shaningwa on Saturday praised Swapo’s Omusati regional coordinator, Sacky Kayone, for the initiative.

She spoke at the official opening of the party’s district office in Etayi.

Swapo members and supporters recently hoisted flags on several trees in Omukoko village near Outapi, where the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) recently opened its office.

Shaningwa urged party members not to allow the party to be defeated by “people without history” and declared that Swapo “will be here to stay”.

“This time we will regain our two-thirds majority in Parliament,” she said.

In the 2019 elections, Swapo lost its two-thirds majority and 14 seats in the National Assembly.

Support for the party also fell from 77% in 2014 to 65% in 2019.

In the regional and local elections in 2020, it further lost its dominance in local governments.
