A welcome rain makes way for more heat in Texoma

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) – A welcome break from the heat today as showers and thunderstorms moved across Texoma from the west and southwest this morning.

As for continued rain chances, counties north of the Red River have the best, albeit slim, chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms overnight and early Sunday morning.

Temperatures will rise again above the average highs for this time of year in August.

Meanwhile, the low temperature in Wichita Falls tonight is 77 degrees and the southeast wind will reach 10 mph.

Temperatures will return to triple digits on Sunday, with highs of 102 degrees and a heat index of 107 degrees in Wichita Falls.

High pressure will remain the dominant weather factor for Texoma and most of the southern Plains over the coming week. A weak cold front is expected to move across Texoma Thursday into Friday, resulting in a slight chance of showers and/or thunderstorms Thursday night into Friday. Regardless, this will likely have little impact on the high temperatures and relatively high humidity. Heat advisories are likely this week, with the possibility of extreme heat advisories.
