Celebrate Smokey the Bear’s birthday with a book

Celebrate Smokey the Bear’s birthday with a book

Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library. It’s almost September, which means fall programming is starting again. We’ll be closed on Labor Day, but starting Tuesday we’ll begin fall programming. And since it’s a new month, it’s time for a new highlight of the month. Grab your copy before it’s sold out starting Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday is the kickoff of the Smokey the Bear Reading Challenge. Celebrate Smokey’s 80th birthday by participating in this challenge. Participants will read about wildfire prevention, forests and natural resource careers while exploring our local environment. Pick up your reading challenge packet during our all-day kickoff on September 3.

Wednesday is a special Tween Scene event. Tweens can try out our normally teen-only event, Casual Game Day. It’s dance party time for tweens in grades 3-5. Get your groove on and see if you can keep the rhythm to a variety of songs, from chart hits to classic dance party tracks in Just Dance 3.

Finally, Thursdays are back when there are plenty of things to do at the library, starting with Genealogy Thursday. Stop by on Thursdays from 11am to noon and our in-house genealogy expert will be happy to help you complete your family tree. Then bring your appetite that evening at 6pm, because our in-house chef Lisa is back this fall with “Delicious Dishes.” Learn a delicious and easy new recipe and try it out before making it at home.

After you’ve eaten your fill of delicious food, wash it down with a delicious craft beer from Dry Lake Brewing at our Ted Lasso Trivia Night. Test your football knowledge (the British variety) and see how well you know everyone’s favorite and lovable coach at our multiple choice trivia night. The winning team will receive a free round of drinks and a pretty cool Ted Lasso-themed prize. Register your team of one to four people now on our website. Don’t forget to pick up a fall catalog so you can stay up to date on all the upcoming trivia nights and other library events this fall.
