Call for artworks: New flag for the city of Loveland possible

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Sesquicentennial Committee is preparing for Loveland’s 150th anniversary and is considering a public art contest to update the Loveland flag.

Below you will find a draft for the implementation of the competition

Loveland artists who live or work in Loveland are encouraged to submit up to three sample flags each for the City of Loveland. No age limit. All images must be original designs and cannot be copies or variations of other artists’ designs in any medium.

A royalty of $1,000 will be paid for use of the finished, print-ready design.

Deadline: February 28, 2025 (Note: If your entry is received by February 1, it will be displayed at the Loveland Hearts of Fire Weekend)

Competition rules and templates Selection criteria:

Artists should keep in mind that the audience is diverse and consists of all ages. Artwork should be appropriate for display in a public location. The art should enhance its surroundings and help create a sense of place. Submissions that contain advertising or logos will not be considered. The judges will select public artworks that, when displayed, will not pose a threat to public safety or create a hostile work environment for public employees.

Artworks with references to local history or places in Loveland are encouraged. Artists must provide a brief explanation that will help the judges better understand the artwork. If the artwork contains a historical reference, the artist must cite the reference materials.

Jury:

Submitted artworks are selected by the Loveland Sesquicentennial Committee, which does not receive knowledge of the artist’s name, place of residence, or other identifying information.

Duration: Loveland’s new flag will be in use for at least 10 years.

Fee:

Each selected artist will receive a $1,000 honorarium for use of the final, print-ready design provided by the artist. Guidelines for Submitted Images: Submissions must be submitted using the online submission form. Name each JPEG file with the corresponding number on the entry form, your last name, title, medium, and year. If you need assistance with image preparation, you can contact Misty Clark at. Guidelines for final images:

Once selected, artists will be required to submit higher resolution images. Submitted images should be at least 300 PPI. Art selected for the project may be subject to additional production requirements.

The finalists will be announced on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

Artists may be asked to collaborate with the flag supplier in completing the design for installations.

By submitting works, artists agree to grant permission to alter/crop the work as necessary to fit a specific signal box.

Guarantee:

Artists certify that designs submitted are their own original work and do not infringe the copyright of others. The City of Loveland reserves limited rights to use selected images at its discretion to promote the project, but copyright remains with the artists. Artists understand that they must provide the City of Loveland with releases from all parties if their artwork includes photographs of partially or fully recognizable people. Artists agree that the City of Loveland may photograph the works on display and use photographs for promotional purposes. Artists agree to sign a contract with the City for the use of each design.
