Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines continues to expand from its largest base in Connecticut, offering more domestic and international routes to connect travelers to popular destinations.

Starting November 14, Avelo will launch nonstop service between Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN). The new route will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays using Avelo’s Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft:

  • New Haven (HVN) to New Orleans (MSY): 7:00 a.m. to 9:29 a.m.
  • New Orleans (MSY) to New Haven (HVN): 10:14 a.m. to 2:21 p.m.

“Avelo is proud to be Connecticut’s airline and to continue growth in New Haven with a new route to New Orleans, as well as more flights to Puerto Rico this winter and increased passenger capacity,” Avelo’s CEO Andrew Levy said in a statement shared with T+L“With Tweed having 27 nonstop destinations to choose from, it’s easier than ever for travellers to use our convenient, affordable and reliable flight service.”

To celebrate the new route, Avelo is offering single-ride tickets for just $79 on its website or app for a limited time.

Along with this news, the low-cost carrier announced that it will base eight of its aircraft at New Haven Airport, from where it flies to more than two dozen cities. Starting November 8, Avelo will increase its popular twice-weekly service to Puerto Rico to four flights per week. The route will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The low-cost carrier began operations in 2021, serving routes between smaller airports and larger destinations. Avelo has been particularly successful from New Haven, as it was the only airline flying to New Haven and served over 2.4 million travelers. But that will change later this year when major low-cost competitor Breeze Airways will open nearly a dozen routes from the regional airport – many of which will be in direct competition with Avelo.
