Giants injury news: OC John Michael Schmitz, RT Evan Neal and four others suffer injuries

The New York Giants’ warm-up game against the New York Jets certainly did not start as the Giants had hoped.

Center John Michael Schmitz was forced out of the game late in the first quarter with an ankle injury. Schmitz sustained the injury on a failed attempt to convert a fourth-and-1.

Schmitz was treated by training staff after the game and although the injury did not appear to be serious, he was quickly taken out of the game.

The Giants also report that right tackle Evan Neal is questionable due to an ankle injury. Neal started in his first game since his 2023 season was ended due to an ankle injury.

The injury to OC starter John Michael Schmitz remains the issue, but the injuries have not stopped.

Center back Mario Goodrich also suffered an injury and is out with a thigh injury. Goodrich sustained the injury five minutes before the end of the second quarter and was ejected from the field limping.

UDFA linebacker Ovie Oghoufo suffered a leg injury while defending a punt in the second quarter.

The Giants’ linebacker injuries have been severe in the preseason, which could affect their decisions regarding cutdown day.

The injury occurred after three consecutive sacks by Tommy DeVito.

Defensive tackle Timmy Horne was carried off the field after the first play. It was quickly confirmed that Horne had suffered an Achilles tendon injury.

Ed Valentine tweeted that he could not put any weight on his leg.

Horne was injured on the first play after the Giants lost possession on the opening kickoff. The injury occurred as Horne attempted to defend a toss play.

Horne, a third-year player from Kansas State, was signed to the Giants’ practice squad in December 2023. He is trying to make the Giants’ roster as a backup behind Dexter Lawrence II and Rakeem Nunez-Roches. The fact that he started the game for the Giants is good news in that regard, but an injury could derail those hopes.

We will keep you updated with further information on Horne’s injury as we receive it.
