In the New York Jets’ final game of the 2024 preseason, the Jets will face the New York Giants at home in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
This game is the last chance for players fighting for a spot on the roster to show off their skills. The Jets will not be using their starters or some key backups. The guys at the bottom of the roster will give it their all and try to get some good stuff on tape. A few days after the game, the final roster cuts will be made and the team will start preparing for a tough opening game against the San Francisco 49ers.
The level of football we’ll see tonight is unlikely to be one to be enthusiastic about. NFL preseason games have slowly deteriorated to the point where many teams don’t send their starters out to play in any of the preseason games. The result is football that is almost unbearable for the fans. For the players on the field, however, the games still provide an opportunity to showcase their skills in game situations. It’s an audition, not just for their respective teams, but for every team in the NFL. For the players who don’t make the final cut, this is a chance to record some good things that might earn them a chance with another franchise later on.
The Jets and the Giants face off in a meaningless game where performance is the key, not the result.
