Highland Village resident and photography artist Deb Kreimborg was awarded the Best of Show award in the prestigious 2024 Salmagundi Annual Photography Contest for her artwork titled “Centre Ville.” The Salmagundi Club, located in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, is a center for fine arts, artist workshops, and host to many art and cultural exhibitions. Deb has had several solo exhibitions and has been selected to be on the jury of many art exhibitions across the country, winning awards along the way.

Deb has lived in the area since 1980. She graduated with a degree in biology and was active in sports and coached gymnastics in high school and college. In 1984, Deb picked up a camera for the first time and “never looked back” because for her, her life had begun then.

Deb started a business called Artistic Visions for family and children portraits. Her work was often exhibited at the Premier Gallery. After 30 years in the business, Deb realized that she could be freer with her art and her work if she expanded beyond family portraits. Six years ago, Deb entered the world of fine art and embraced the opportunity to let an image guide her through telling a story that would evoke emotion and touch the heart. She no longer needed a preconceived notion of what an image should be like.

Deb takes numerous photographs and then uses sophisticated technical Photoshop skills to create unique works of art, using layers, textures and light, adding an air of mystery to each piece. Deb’s art can be printed on metallic paper, canvas, aluminum or other paper, which will enhance the original photograph even more. The type of paper Deb uses can even add architectural detail to her subjects. She now signs her paintings at the bottom with “DK.”

Deb creates projects, many of which are 20 to 40 pieces each. Some of Deb’s work and projects can be found on her website www.debkreimborgfineart.com. Deb’s work will also be featured in the upcoming Visual Art League show “Patterns and Textures” at the Lewisville Grand August 17 – September 8.

Deb’s life is enriched by being a cancer survivor. She has more empathy. She has been asked to write inspirational blogs about the importance of giving someone hope. Deb enjoys life and loves life. Deb laughs easily and wants others to laugh too. Her next project is “Women with Scars”. Her goal is for every photo to inspire hope.

Like so many artists, Deb faces the challenge of answering the call of art, determining when a work is truly finished, expressing her passion through her art, always being curious, always having fun, and always giving back.

Deb was a member of the Cross Timbers Artist Guild, is an active member of the Visual Art League of Lewisville, and curator of many VAL exhibitions. She plays bridge, has published a book called His Love Letters, does yoga, and is a wife and proud grandmother. She has no plans to grow old: she will always move forward, learn, grow, and never look back.

We are lucky to have such a talented artist in our ranks!
