When it comes to sports debates, one of the most entertaining rhetoric is the question of who is the greatest of all time. What makes the conversation so entertaining is that there is no right answer or exact science to a consensus. Most of the time, it comes down to the individual’s nostalgia for who the top player was at the height of their fandom.
The GOAT questions go beyond basketball and football. They even extend into professional wrestling. Many consider John Cena to be the greatest, but the man himself has a different answer.
During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s show “Club Shay Shay,” Cena claimed that Roman Reigns is the greatest professional wrestler of all time, citing his years of experience as a WWE main eventer and his long list of championships and accomplishments that is as long as a CVS receipt.
“I don’t think there’s a better example of the greatest thing the business has ever accomplished than Roman Reigns,” Cena said. “It’s unbelievable that I’m saying that a talent who is still active and has years left in him is the greatest of all time. He’s been around since 2012. I had to work my way up. I started on the bench and then came to Saturday, losing every match. He came in with The Shield and a really high-level spot and never wavered. Even when the fans didn’t like him, he was still in the main event. He’s been the main event focus for over a decade.”
The accolades speak for themselves. Reigns has headlined eight of the last ten WrestleMania events in the main event. His reign as Universal Champion, which has lasted over 1,300 days, is the fourth longest reign of the world title in WWE history. His Tribal Chief gimmick has been the company’s top story in recent years.
With Cena’s 2025 retirement tour approaching, perhaps WWE can organize a fantasy rematch between Reigns and Cena. It would be an epic duel between two faces on WWE’s Mount Rushmore.
