“I’ve always liked nature. Sometimes I like to go hiking with my aunt and I love going to the mountains and stuff,” says Naja VanBrabant, pointing to some of her artworks, such as flowers, fruits or birds. “I find (nature) fascinating,” she says, and art is a medium for her to express this fascination.

Many of her artworks appear realistic when viewed from a distance, but VanBrabant says she only uses colored pencils.

She has been involved with art since she was a child. “It’s always been a part of my life. I think I started when I was about four,” she says, and during the pandemic she had the opportunity to pursue her passion more. “I was inside all the time, so I had so much time for it,” says the artist, explaining that many of the pieces in the exhibition were created during the pandemic.

She invites the public to view her work. This is VanBrabant’s first exhibition and she says she is grateful for the opportunity. “It’s nice to showcase my art. I’ve never really been able to do that before,” she says, hoping to do more of it in the future.

More of her work can also be found online.
