Woman injured in accident with Senator John Fetterman has hired a lawyer, says she has “real injuries”

Woman injured in accident with Senator John Fetterman has hired a lawyer, says she has “real injuries”

The Virginia woman whose vehicle was struck from behind by Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman in Maryland in June is reportedly still recovering from the car crash that also left Fetterman and his wife Gisele hospitalized.

In a statement through her attorney, 62-year-old Jennifer Campbell said she was “trying to maintain her privacy” while she recovers from her unspecified injuries, the Baltimore Sun reported last week.

However, Campbell said through her lawyer that she also felt it was important to go public after the clash with the senator.

“I think it’s important to recognise that I am a real human being and that I suffered real injuries in this accident,” she said in the statement to The Sun.

Campbell has hired Virginia attorney Andrew K. Thomas to assist her in pursuing a personal injury claim, the Sun reported.

“We’re treating it like any other case” by filing an insurance claim, Thomas told the Sun.

Neither Thomas nor a spokesman for Fetterman responded to requests for comment Friday.

Fetterman was found “guilty” for the crash, which occurred near Hancock, Maryland, on the morning of June 9 – Fetterman and his wife’s 16th wedding anniversary. No charges were filed. Maryland State Police said the junior senator was driving “significantly” faster than the 70 mph speed limit before he rear-ended Campbell’s vehicle.

Both vehicles – Fetterman’s Chevrolet Traverse and the woman’s Chevrolet Impala – were towed because of the damage, the police report said.

Campbell said her trunk was pushed into the back seat of the car by the impact, the Sun reported. After the collision, Fetterman came to Campbell’s car and checked on her, she said.

The police report stated that the extent of the damage to both parties was “disabled”.

Fetterman and his wife were taken to a local hospital for evaluation “out of an abundance of caution,” the senator’s spokesman said at the time, and Fetterman was treated for a shoulder bruise.

In June, Fetterman called the collision a “regrettable accident.”

“I am relieved and thankful that there were no serious injuries,” he said in a statement. “I have been driving for nearly 40 years and have had my fair share of speeding tickets. When I was speeding, I was held accountable. I need to do better and slow down – and I will.”

The Pennsylvania senator has a history of risky driving, according to state records. This year he received a ticket for going 34 miles per hour over the speed limit in Westmoreland County.

After Fetterman received the ticket in March, Pennsylvania required him to take a “driving skills improvement course,” the Washington Post reported, citing unidentified people who allegedly knew about the situation.

In addition, the senator’s staff testified that Fetterman texted and communicated via FaceTime during the trip, “which raised concerns among his staff and made them reluctant to ride with him,” the Washington Post reported, citing three people with knowledge of the staff meetings who spoke about the internal discussions on condition of anonymity.
