UPDATE #1 @ 21:55 UK time – The plane makes a U-turn and flies to Washington Dulles.


UPDATE #2 @ 22:00 UK time – N17133 is the aircraft involved in the current emergency.

According to Planespotters, N17133 is a 25.7-year-old Boeing 757-200 that began its life with Continental Airlines in December 1998.

In addition, the airline was transferred to the UA registry following the merger with United Airlines in October 2010.

The airline has 40 of the 757-200 variant in its fleet.

Of the 40, 37 are in active service and three are retired; the average age of the fleet is 27.6 years.

In addition, other aircraft in the UA main fleet include the following:

  • 81 Airbus A319.
  • 84 Airbus A320.
  • 15 Airbus A321.
  • 510 aircraft of the Boeing 737 family.
  • 21 Boeing 757-300.
  • 53 Boeing 767.

EMERGENCY UPDATE #5 @ 22:15 UK time – LANDING!

United Airlines flight UA2108, originally scheduled to fly from Newark to Orlando, appears to have landed safely at Washington Dulles, according to the emergency announcement.

Furthermore, the cause is unclear at this time.

As soon as we have further information on this, we will inform you accordingly.

Overall, this remains an evolving story.


UPDATE #6 @ 22:25 UK time – UA2108 came to a stop on the high-speed exit ramp for several minutes.

In addition, the aircraft was checked by rescue workers after landing.

From there, the aircraft taxied to its gate as a precaution in the presence of emergency vehicles.

Overall, the cause is not yet clear at this point.


UPDATE #7 @ 22:29 UK time – United Airlines’ flight status page states that the reason for the emergency and subsequent diversion to Washington Dulles on flight UA2108 Newark-Orlando appears to be a lavatory issue.

The airline announced on the status page:

“We are sorry we stopped at Washington Dulles.”

“Our maintenance team needs to service your aircraft’s toilet before we can depart again.”

“We will keep you updated as soon as we receive further information.”
