LAPD conducts DUI checks and patrols on the west side on Friday

Culver City and Westchester arrested for DUI stops this weekend

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will conduct a series of DUI stops and patrols to combat drunk driving in the city on Friday, August 23. Checkpoints will be in operation from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the following locations: Imperial Highway and Main Street, and Venice Boulevard and Culver Boulevard.

The LAPD selects checkpoint locations based on data indicating high numbers of accidents and arrests due to driving under the influence. The primary goal of these checkpoints is to increase public safety by educating drivers about the dangers of driving under the influence (DUI) and removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

The LAPD emphasizes that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Prescription and over-the-counter medications can also impair driving ability. In addition, while medical and recreational use of marijuana is legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.

Drivers convicted of drunk driving for the first time face severe consequences, including fines and penalties averaging $13,500 and license revocation.

This enforcement program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
