Drop off and pick up from school in Amarillo

Drop off and pick up from school in Amarillo

With the school season in full swing again, dropping off and picking up children from school is one of the most important issues. Schools inform you in advance about the pick-up and drop-off points and queues, but there is always a crazy rush there.

I’ll be the first to tell you that we usually follow the rules when dropping off, but when picking up? It’s a different story. We’ll find a place that’s a little away from the chaos to make it easier for all of us.

This year my youngest son moved to a new school since we moved out of the Amarillo ISD zone, so we had to get used to a whole new system. The first day was absolute madness. When my wife went to pick him up from school, she followed the rules about where to go.

HUGE mistake. She sat in a line of cars for 15 minutes barely moving. It was so bad that our son said he was about to just walk home, which would have only caused her to panic when she finally got there and he was missing.

We are not alone

If you scroll through social media, you’ll see numerous people also complaining about their situation, and not just at one school. In Bivins, things got so bad that the Mugshots Of Randall County page was launched on Facebook. This post became the biggest drama Amarillo has seen so far this year.

Then Lamar Elementary School and its pathetic, abused handicapped parking spot appeared.

Sounds like Lamar has its own issues. I can attest to that with Bivins as both my kids were there for a while. However, according to commenters, the administration has fixed the morning handoff there.

What other drop-off and pick-up options should we know about and avoid?

What do you think? Who has the worst pickup and drop-off line in town? We want to know.
