Mini update for the Nexus G1 project, bigger news on the way

Thomas Boland, project leader of the Nexus G1, has provided a mini update on the highly anticipated camera, suggesting that much bigger news will be released in the coming weeks.

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update on the Nexus G1 project, which introduced a very interesting looking automatic locking system, but boss Thomas Boland has just popped up on the upcoming camera’s Facebook feed with an update.

And it looks like the project has changed a bit.

We have worked hard on the design of the Nexus G1, both the outer casing, the electronics, the integration of the AutoLock MFT mount and the internal parts that make it all work. We are very happy to say that the latest design of the Nexus G1 is beautifully done and absolutely overwhelming,” he writes.

“The latest design is similar to the original concept, but much better. We’ve taken everyone’s feedback into account and taken the Nexus G1 to a whole new level – it’s functionally fantastic, much better than the original concept, and looks stunning.”

That all sounds pretty good to us. Boland writes that the camera has been greatly improved. Instead of plastic, the casing is now made entirely of magnesium alloy and carbon fiber, which he says makes it ultra-strong and lightweight at the same time.

This raises two questions, as far as we know. Can the camera still meet its late 2024 availability target? And can it do that and still cost $3,000? Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

“In about two weeks we will be ready to release the new Nexus film, which will show all the new features, body design, accessories and prototype,” says Boland. Many thanks to everyone who follows and supports the project!! It’s about to get very exciting.
