Guillermo Del Toro stays in a haunted hotel while filming “Frankenstein”

Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-winning director behind Pan’s Labyrinth And Shape of Water – The Secret of Waterhas experience creating his own horror film for the big screen – but he may be living in the middle of a real one.

Earlier this week, del Toro, 59, began sharing his experience staying in the “most haunted” room of a 19th-century hotel in Aberdeen, Scotland, while filming a new adaptation of “The Last Man.” Frankenstein.

The filmmaker wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, August 20: “I’m in the most haunted room of this – which was vacated by one of our producers this morning. Strange electrical and physical occurrences spooked her so much that she left as soon as possible. Stay tuned – if anything happens, I’ll report.”

Del Toro said he “always” stays in the “most haunted rooms” in hotels, but he has only experienced “something supernatural” once.

On Thursday, August 22, del Toro gave an update. Nothing had happened yet, but there was an “oppressive” atmosphere in the room and he did not want to stay in that room any longer.

“It may be a recommendation but at this point I’ve kept it but am sleeping in a different room – I need 6 hours of sleep to have a good day of shooting – I stop there early and late in the day – but something is with me in that room,” he wrote. “If anything happens or nothing happens expect another update or two.”

After he finished filming on Thursday, del Toro returned to the room. “There’s more to the room than just mood,” he wrote. “There’s something angry and turf-fighting. A hint of rage.”

Before leaving the room, however, del Toro shared two photos, including a self-portrait with mirror stains clouding his image.

“Trying to do an EVP on my iPhone,” he captioned the second photo. “EVP” stands for “Electronic Voice Phenomenon,” a mysterious or supposedly supernatural voice that can appear in audio recordings.

Del Toro’s Frankenstein The film is the latest version of Mary Shelley’s novel. Oscar Isaac plays Dr. Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi plays his monster. Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer also star in the film, which will be released by Netflix.
