Guillermo del Toro documents experiences in a haunted hotel in Scotland

Guillermo del Toro’s time filming Frankenstein in Aberdeen, Scotland, was interesting, or should I say, scary.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker took to his X account (formerly Twitter) this week to document his stay in what he called his hotel’s “most haunted room.” There were so many “strange” occurrences that one of the film’s producers left the room as soon as possible. Del Toro, however, wanted to go inside the room to see what all the fuss was about.

“While in Aberdeen I am staying in an old 19th century hotel. I am in the most haunted room – which was vacated this morning by one of our producers,” he wrote on Thursday. “Strange electrical and physical occurrences have frightened her so much that she left as soon as possible. Stay tuned – if anything happens I will report.”

Shape of Water – The Secret of Water The director added: “I always stay in the ‘most haunted rooms’, but only once have I experienced anything supernatural – otherwise: nothing. I have high hopes.”

The next day, del Toro said that although “nothing has happened yet,” the “atmosphere in the room is oppressive” and that “there is something in that room with me.” Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio The director also noted that he did not sleep in the room because he needed enough rest to “have a good day of shooting,” but came by in the morning and evening.

“I won’t be spending much time there anymore,” he posted on Wednesday. “It might be a recommendation, but for now I’m keeping it but sleeping in a different room – I need 6 hours of sleep to have a good day of filming. I stop there early and late in the day – but there’s something about me in that room.”

In his last update on Thursday, del Toro said he went into the room after filming wrapped and felt “more than just vibes.” “There’s something angry and territorial. A hint of rage,” he wrote.

The Nightmare Alley Helmer also shared a photo of something strange he saw in the mirror and said he also tried to listen to an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) on his phone.

Del Toro is currently shooting his upcoming Netflix film, a remake of Mary Shelley’s FrankensteinThe main roles are played by Oscar Isaac as a scientist, Jacob Elordi as his monster, as well as Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz and Felix Kammerer.
