Season 2 of Reasonable Doubt returns to the courtroom and the cast and numerous new additions are ready to take the case to court.
It’s been a while since Season 1 of Reasonable Doubt. Jax is kidnapped by a deranged client who became her lover, and her best friend Shanelle (Shannon Kane) seemingly murders her husband, so there’s no telling what will happen in Season 2. But to lighten the load, the series has brought in veteran actor Morris Chestnut to play defense attorney Corey Cash.
Other new additions to the series include Essence Atkins, who plays the role of domestic violence expert named Dr. Brandy Michaels, Melissa Ponzio, who plays new District Attorney Lucy Wargo, Vaughn W. Hebron, who plays a former NFL player and protégé of JT (Shannon’s now deceased husband) named Adrian Hunter, and Kandi Burris, who plays Eboni Phillips, the mother of JT’s daughter Natasha.
“Reasonable Doubt” was created, written and executive produced by Raamla Mohamed. Kerry Washington and Pilar Savone of Simpson Street serve as executive producers alongside Larry Wilmore of his Wilmore Films and Anton Cropper. Shawn Holley, Jon Leshay, Tamara Gregory, Lena Cordina, TASH Gray and Resheida Brady are set to serve as co-producers.
The series comes from Onyx Collective and is produced by ABC Signature, a division of Disney Television Studios.
Reasonable Doubt hits Hulu on Thursday, August 22. Check out the show’s main cast below.
Emayatzy Corinealdi as Jacqueline “Jax” Stewart
Emayatzy Corinealdi plays intelligent, confident and sharp-witted civil and criminal defense attorney Jacqueline “Jax” Stewart. Last season, she strayed too far from the courtroom by falling dangerously in love with her client Damon (Michael Ealy). And in Season 2, she’s taken a break from fighting for justice while she deals with the emotional trauma she suffered from Damon’s fatal kidnapping. With her marriage still in crisis and work still calling, Jax tries to juggle it all while trying to dismiss her best friend Shanelle’s (Shannon Kane) murder charge.
Corinealdi’s previous works include “Addicted,” “Beats,” “Gun Hill,” “The Invitation,” “Miles Ahead,” “Roots,” and more.
McKinley Freeman as Lewis Stewart
McKinley Freeman reprises his role as Lewis Stewart, Jax’s husband. Although Lewis loves Jax deeply, he wants her to find a way to balance her work life without letting it affect their marriage. In the meantime, Lewis is content to wait for Jax to change and fight for their relationship, but that doesn’t mean his patience is running thin.
Freeman’s credits include acting appearances in “Good Boy,” “Hit the Floor,” “Illicit,” “Loved to Death,” and more.
Morris Chestnut as Corey Cash
New to the team is Morris Chestnut as defense attorney Corey Cash. He is the slick, media-savvy and extremely calculating defense attorney that Jax needs to win the murder case against her best friend. But will his unique but questionable tactics go too far?
Chestnut has an extensive resume that includes appearances in the “Best Man” franchise, “Boyz n the Hood,” “Two Can Play That Game,” “The Brothers,” and more.
Thaddeus J. Mixson as Spenser
Thaddeus J. Mixson plays Spenser, the Stewarts’ eldest child. Last season, he didn’t cope well with his parents’ estrangement, which led to rebellious behavior. As he goes through his teenage years, he still finds time to show mercy to his parents, even as he gives them hell.
Mixson previously starred in “South of Heaven,” “Creed II,” “Safety,” “Kids Crew,” and others.
Aderinsola Olabode as Naima
Aderinsola Olabode plays Naima, the Stewarts’ daughter. Naima is getting older, which means she is much more aware of her parents’ drama now, but she never chooses sides and just wants them to be happy.
Before “Reasonable Doubt,” Olabode starred in a short film called “Love.”
Tim Jo as Daniel Kim
Tim Jo plays Jax’s private investigator, who serves as her right-hand man and helps her sort out the details of every case she takes on. He’s quick-witted, highly intelligent, and always provides a comedic side to things. His biggest task in Season 2 is to find out how Shanelle was involved in her husband’s murder.
Jo’s work has been seen on Pitch, This Is Us, Fame, Bandslam, Glory Days, and more.
Angela Grovey as Krystal Walters
Angela Grovey plays the other half of Jax’s successful office team, Krystal Walters, alongside Daniel. She is Jax’s diligent administrative assistant who has no problem giving Jax a little advice for his girlfriend every now and then.
In addition to “Reasonable Doubt,” Grovey’s work can be seen in “30 Rock,” “Joyful Noise,” “Master,” “Modern Love,” “Monsterland,” and more.
Victor Rasuk as Mike Ortiz
Victor Rasuk plays Mike Llanas in Reasonable Doubt, an overzealous prosecutor who is completely dedicated to his work. And although he and Jax have been rivals before, the two often rely on each other for help with their cases.
Pauletta Washington as Mama Lu
Pauletta Washington returns to her role as Jax’s mother, Mama Lu. She’s poked her nose into Jax’s personal life a little too often, but most of all she’s just a concerned and caring mother.
Washington previously appeared in “Tell It Like a Woman,” “Purlie,” “Steps,” “Beloved,” “Burden” and more.
