Lynn Williams of the USWNT told a funny story about how she broke her gold medal at the Paris Games

USWNT striker Lynn Williams finally told the story of how she damaged her Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Williams was filmed waving the medal around during the celebrations for her team’s gold medal win, but she admitted that wasn’t the reason her medal broke. It happened later during the celebrations when she was dancing with her teammates. First, the ribbon came off the medal.

“I had it on my shoulder like a little purse and I was just jumping, dancing, jumping,” Williams said in a TikTok video. “And when I jumped down, it just fell down. So everyone was dancing and I was running around trying to pick up my medal off the ground. It’s got a dent in it now, so it’s definitely one of a kind.”

She joked that the medals should have been made more stable so that something like this would not happen.

However, Williams may not have to sit on her broken gold medal forever, as she has already approached the International Olympic Committee to replace it. As long as she proves it is broken, they should be able to send her a new one.

“I don’t know if I’m going to get it repaired,” Williams continued. “We’re waiting for a response from the IOC, the Olympic Committee. They said I could probably get one. I had to prove to them that it was actually damaged, but now we’re just waiting. If not, I think it’s a cool, funny story, honestly.”

Williams doesn’t seem too upset about the situation as she laughed the whole story off. It’s definitely a unique story that not many other Olympic athletes can relate to.

Williams appeared as a substitute in all six of his team’s Olympic games and scored a goal in the win against Germany.
