If you use Philips Hue security cameras to monitor your home, there’s good news: you can soon expect a massive package of new features and bug fixes that should make it easier to keep track of what’s happening inside and out.
One of the biggest changes is improved package detection if you have a Hue Secure subscription. This feature lets you set a zone for detailed notifications that will let you know if a package has been left outside so you can pick it up before a thief gets to you. Now the notifications should be more accurate, so you have a better chance of picking up your delivery before a thief does.
Person detection has also been improved and you should receive fewer false alarms due to rain or trees moving in the wind. You should also no longer receive notifications for events triggered outside of the activity zones you defined in the app.
Crush errors
As Hueblog.com explains, this update also fixed other bugs, including an issue that caused live footage from your camera to appear mostly black or mostly white, as well as an issue that could cause the camera to go into sleep mode without Bluetooth being turned off.
Future updates should be faster and more stable, and Hue has improved error reporting so that bugs can be fixed more effectively.
However, there is one change you may not be so happy to see. After the firmware update, a Hue watermark will appear in the Live View footage. Hopefully it won’t be too distracting.
