John E. Hoffman, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, surrounded by family at his home in Loudon, Tennessee. He was born in White Deer Township, Pennsylvania, to Harry and Dorothy Hoffman.

John is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Gail E. He is survived by his children, Susan (Glenn) Espy, Sharon (Kevin) Land, Eric (Tracy) Hoffman and Laurie Way, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Algier Hoffman.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and was stationed in England. He then earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and eventually founded the architectural firm John Hoffman Architect in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

John was always active in his community in various organizations, including serving as a member and chairman of the Loyalsock Township Planning Commission for 39 years from 1967 to 2006. He was also a founding member and director of the Woodlands Bank, which was established to better serve the needs of the people and businesses of Lycoming County. John was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Williamsport.

John was a man of many talents. His many artistic passions included wildlife photography, for which he traveled extensively with friends, woodworking, drawing and painting in various media, and stained glass. His beautiful artwork will be cherished by his family and friends for generations to come.

He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, camping, kayaking, and biking with his wife and later friends. His appreciation for the outdoors was evident in all aspects of his life.

John’s legacy of kindness, generosity and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and he will be sorely missed.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s on Saturday, August 31st at 11:30am, followed by lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
