Toy Story 5 is officially on the horizon.

The beloved Pixar franchise, known for its heartwarming and nostalgic stories, returns with an all-new adventure featuring fan-favorite toys Buzz Lightyear and Woody, with the historic voices of Tim Allen and Tom Hanks, respectively.

During Disney’s D23 Expo in August 2024, Pixar revealed details about what’s next for Buzz, Woody and their toy friends, announcing that the fifth film will be released in June 2026.

Director Andrew Stanton, a key figure in the creation of the Toy history Universe, will take the helm and said at D23 that the latest installment will address current issues, particularly the impact of technology on children’s play.

“In Toy Story 5 “The toy-related tasks become exponentially more difficult when our toy crew is confronted with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics,” he said at the event.

How is Toy Story 4 stop?

Toy Story 4 ended with Woody and Buzz splitting up and Woody joining Bo Peep (Annie Potts) to live a life as a “lost toy”, free from the constraints that come with being owned by a child.

Throughout the film, Woody struggled to find his place with Bonnie, as she no longer needed him as much as Andy did. Buzz understood Woody’s decision, assured him that Bonnie would be fine without him, and supported Woody’s decision to start a new chapter.

Meanwhile, Buzz stayed with Bonnie and continued to live with Jessie (Joan Cusack), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Hamm (John Ratzenberger) and other toys, including the new addition Forky (Tony Hale).

When will Toy Story 5 be released?

Toy Story 5 is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2026.

Who is in the cast of Toy Story 5?

While the casting details have not yet been officially announced, Allen confirmed during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon In November 2023, Disney contacted him and Hanks about reprising their roles. His update came more than six months after the entertainment company confirmed the project was in the works.

The concept art released at D23 also hints at the return of popular characters such as Jessie, Rex, Forky and Hamm, although official confirmation of their voice actors is still pending.

What is the plot of Toy Story 5?

Toy Story 5 Director Stanton revealed that the central conflict of the latest film will be about the toys’ struggle to remain relevant in the age of technology.

The concept image revealed at D23 shows the toys looking sadly at their owner as they are engrossed in a tablet, hinting at the emotional and humorous struggles they must go through as they try to regain the child’s attention.

In an interview with The Wrap in February 2023, Pete Docter, executive producer of Toy Story 5 and one of the creators and authors of the 1995 Toy history and its 1999 sequel, said the upcoming installment would be “surprising.”

“It has some really cool stuff in it that you’ve never seen before,” he said.

However, a teaser trailer was shown at D23 in which Woody, Buzz and Jessie waved to the audience.

Who is directing Toy Story 5?

Stanton, a longtime Pixar director known for classics such as Finding Nemo And The big crawlwill lead Toy Story 5. Stanton was one of the key creative forces behind the Toy history Series since its inception as an author on all former Toy history Movies.

He will co-direct with McKenna Harris, who produced Elementary and directed the animated short film Hello Albertorelated to Lucasaccording to The Wrap.

In August 2024, Harris posted on Instagram about her excitement about working on the film.
