EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) – This week on East Texas Kitchen Pickin’, Jeff goes all out with elegance and elephants. Steph says it’s all about southern hospitality… and an elephant.
Henry Ford Museum Tin
Jeff: So I learned something new this week. I didn’t know about the Henry Ford Museum, a collection of inventions and historical collections. That’s where this set came from. I’m still interested in collecting silver and got these at a great price to give them a try.
Steph: This is a lovely heavy tea set! I believe it is made of pewter but don’t take my word for it. All I know is that it feels quite heavy and is in great condition. A very nice collector’s item for someone to snap up.
Andrea von Sadek pineapple plate
Jeff: I saw this and the next plate in advance at an estate sale and bought them at auction a week later for a real bargain price. Unfortunately, this one has a small crack in it, so it will probably have to go straight into the trash. I find it funny that there is a warning on the back of this plate not to eat from it.
Steph: Nobody wants lead poisoning, right? Nice presentation plate!
Plates from the 1940s
Jeff: This one is also from the same auction and was offered for much less than the original price. I paid $2 at the most and it is advertised as being from the 1940s. If that is true, this is a really cool find, even with the chip. It looks so clean and modern.
Steph: This is a really pretty cake plate. I like cranberry glass and although I don’t collect it, my grandmother did and if she was still with us, I’m sure she would love this one! She might have had one similar, honestly, I just don’t remember.
Toothpick holder with elephant motif
Jeff: This thing is just too cool and in incredible condition. According to research, it is MCM (Mid-Century Modern). It is only worth about $15, which is a real bargain. I can’t believe the tusks are still intact.
Steph: I also can’t believe they are intact. He is perfect and so cute. Great find!
