Drake’s recent 100MB content dump brought back some memories for Young Guru. He recalled a wild story about JAY-Z dropping his verse for Scorpio Cut “Talk Up.”
Earlier this week, Drake released a treasure trove of content, including unreleased music and videos that gave fans a behind-the-scenes look.
One of these clips showed Drake impatiently waiting for a verse from JAY-Z, who, despite being in the middle of a show, only had a few hours to finish it.
“He’s going to get off stage, take a shower, probably have a drink and then get back together with Guru (to write and record),” Drake says in the clip. “This process will take two hours.”

Young Guru, JAY-Z’s longtime sound engineer, provided the rest of the details on Instagram, revealing Hov’s desperate sprint to record.
“The story behind it is beyond crazy,” Guru said, recalling that Hov only had a small window of time to write his verses during his performance on the On The Run II tour.
“He literally wrote the verse after a two-hour show,” he said. “He literally wrote the verse after a two-hour show.”
JAY-Z set up a replica studio in the concert hall to record his verse for Drake
In a follow-up post, Guru explained that he was scheduled to perform at the after-party and therefore only had two hours to record JAY-Z’s verse.
“HOV just approached me and said, ‘set up a studio in the venue,'” he added. “The promoter waited in the parking lot for two hours and I can’t tell him why I’m late. By the time HOV was done, the internet we had set up from Livenation was gone. Everyone was gone. I had to pair my phone with my computer to send the session to @ovo40.”
Thankfully they did it and Guru even made it to the after party in time for his performance. “When you all listen to this piece I sometimes wonder if you understand how much work went into it!!!!” he exclaimed. “Classic nights!!!! And I rocked my performance lol.”
