We all make a big mistake when we eat sausage rolls, claims an etiquette expert

Sausage rolls, a popular British baked goods product, are eaten with the hands by adults and children alike.

However, etiquette expert William Hanson has sparked debate after claiming that this common practice is wrong. In a viral video that has garnered over 418,000 likes, social media influencer Joe Tasker is corrected by Hanson as he is about to eat a sausage roll with his hands.

“We don’t pick up the sausage rolls with our hands,” explains Hanson, before demonstrating what he thinks is the correct way to eat the pastry. He begins by placing a napkin on his lap to catch any crumbs.

As the video continues, Joe tries to follow Hanson’s method, while the etiquette guru warns him not to “flick” the napkin or he’ll “gouge someone’s eye out.” Hanson then shocks many by advising to eat a sausage roll with a knife and fork.

Hanson describes the procedure in detail: “We pick up the cutlery. We don’t use our hands. We hold the fork in our non-dominant hand. We hold the knife in our dominant hand. And then we carefully pry it apart from the edge, not from the middle.”

Tasker left his knife and fork behind and instead put the piece he had cut off with his fingers into his mouth. The TikTok clip left viewers speechless and they flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts.

One person posted, “I’d be done before that guy even starts,” while another chimed in, “Just let my brother eat that.” A third user noted, “This is awesome.”

Someone else wrote: “Sorry but there is only one way to eat a sausage roll and that is half in the bag, half outside and biting into it while walking through town. Standing at a bus stop or in the car is also acceptable though.”
