John Cena once almost joined the Marines; that stopped him

Before his WWE career, John Cena was close to joining the Marines, but this one incident stopped him.

Since his main roster debut in 2002 against Kurt Angle, John Cena has established himself as one of the promotion’s top guys. Before his wrestling career, however, Cena was an aspiring bodybuilder and wanted to join the U.S. Marines.

In his recent interview with Shannon Sharpe of Club Shay Shay, John Cena revealed that he almost joined the Marines early in his career before a lucky coincidence stopped him.

I love it when the team wins. I want to be part of a group of people where I’m not the smartest. I love the uniform, getting to travel the world, and never having to worry about pay. There are so many perks in the military. And as a young man, these were the people I idolized. So I was like, “Man! I’m going to join the Marines.” And the weekend I was going to drive from Los Angeles to San Diego to join, my buddy said, “Hey man, you know, we’re training down in Orange County to be wrestlers. You want to try out before you go?”

The suggestion and the career option left Cena speechless and he continued:

You can do wrestling? I didn’t know there was a school. I didn’t know anything about it. It was very secret. And when I went to check it out, I thought, ‘Oh! This is going to be my new hobby. I would do these odd jobs so I could get into these bodybuilding shows. Now I had a reason to do my odd jobs on the weekends in addition to this hobby.'”

Whether it was pursuing a new hobby or a potential career in the military, Cena took every opportunity he could to reach the top of the wrestling industry. From the beginning of his career as The Prototype to just before his farewell tour as a legend, the 16-time world champion has come a long way.

John Cena explains why Roman Reigns is the “GOAT”

In the same interview with Shannon Sharpe of Club Shay Shay, John Cena explained why he thinks Roman Reigns is the “Greatest of All Time.” Cena talked about his journey to the top and how Reigns was instrumental in WWE/TKO’s stock price rising.

He’s been a main event focus for over a decade now. And he’s done his time, and you could say whatever forces helped him, but in 2012 the stock was $11, WWE or TKO stock is now $117, that’s on him.”

Cena and Roman Reigns have a long history together, from working together to feuding with each other. He has always praised Reigns’ talent. As the 16-time world champion approaches his farewell tour, fans are wondering if the man has another title reign in him.

In other news, a WWE star sustained an injury during a recent taping.
