Did you know that it is illegal to take photos at this location in Minnesota?
I love the families that take family photos every year. To be completely honest, I’m not one of those moms. We rarely have professional photos taken and since we live in a world of iPhones and selfies, we have quite a few “in-the-moment” family photos.
I did, however, treat myself one time and had some professional photos taken of my kids. We walked all over the city and they struck a few poses in different spots. These are some of my favorite photos of their cute faces because they included not only my kids but also spots in our city that are a bit artsy. At one point, however, they said that “cheese” was a big no-no.
Railroad tracks have become popular locations for wedding photos, graduation photos, and selfies. However, taking photos on railroad tracks is illegal and extremely dangerous. ABC News reported the heartbreaking story of a family who were taking some fun photos on a railroad track for a school project in a rural area. Unfortunately, a train came by and one of the children lost his life that day because he just couldn’t get away from the train fast enough.
Why didn’t the family hear the train coming when they were taking photos on the tracks?
Don Woods, a train engineer in Norfolk Southern’s Washington District, told ABC News about the challenges of guessing a train’s speed. The sound of a train, that roar many of us have heard before, follows the train. In other words, if you’re standing in front of the train, you may not even know it’s coming toward you. He vividly illustrated that a train’s speed is an optical illusion, and that if you and the train are tied, you lose the game.
Unfortunately, many risk their lives playing this game of moves and think they will win. In 2015, reality TV star, Greg Plitt, lost his life while recording his training videos on a railway track. In FebruaryAnother death occurred when a photographer was hit by a train during a photo shoot in Fresno, California.
Is it really illegal to take photos on railroad tracks in Minnesota?
