Colorado LBs Nikhai Hill-Green and Jeremiah Brown push for start

Earlier this month, the Colorado Buffaloes’ inside linebacker position seemed set with LaVonta Bentley and Trevor Woods returning from last season’s defense. However, linebackers coach Andre’ Hart says two more players are pushing for a starting spot.

Hart met with the media on Tuesday and was asked if Woods and Bentley would be in the starting lineup. He named former Jackson State transfer Jeremiah Brown and Charlotte 49ers transfer Nikhai Hill-Green as players who are “really putting in a great effort.”

Brown played in all 12 games last season and recorded 11 tackles. Hill-Green played in 11 games for Charlotte, starting seven, and was second on the team with 73 total tackles.

Here is what Coach Hart had to say about the competition at the linebacker position:

“At the beginning of the season I thought it was (Woods and Bentley), and now Nikhai (Hill-Green) and Jeremiah Brown are really pushing,” Hart said. “We’ve been shaking those guys up. I always talk about how competing gives them sleepless nights, and now they’re giving me sleepless nights trying to imagine who that guy could be for me. They’ve played really well. I’m excited to see who comes out on top. But I feel good having four of those guys in there.”
