Alicia Silverstone says she is ‘alive’ after accidentally eating poison

Alicia Silverstone has provided an update on social media after causing concern by apparently eating a poisonous fruit.

The Clueless The actress was in England when she came across a plant and decided to pick its fruit to try it. In a video, she asked viewers to tell her which plant it was.

“When I bite into it… I don’t think it’s allowed to eat? It’s almost like a pepper. Can someone tell me what it is? Thanks!” said Silverstone.

However, it turned out that the fruit was a Jerusalem cherry (also called Christmas cherry or winter cherry), a slightly poisonous nightshade plant.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, eating the fruit is “harmful to health” for humans and pets and one should “wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling it.”

Her fans immediately warned the actress in the comments section that it was a poisonous fruit and were concerned when she did not post an update.

That’s how it has been until now… because Silverstone heard the warnings and released a follow-up video to respond to fears that she had been poisoned.

She posted a photo of herself at a photo shoot and stated that she was “alive and well.”

“Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow,” Silverstone added.

In the comments section, viewers expressed their relief that Silverstone was alive and well.

One person said: “Girl why did this update take almost 24 hours?”

“Thank God!! I literally check your page every hour,” another person wrote.

Someone else added: “Alicia WE NEED VIDEO PROOF!!”

“Everyone is dying to hear news from you, we were all worried! Thanks for letting us know you’re OK!” a fourth person commented.
